Hiveling Race in The Veil
Trades attack speed and daytime resistance for damage and stronger resistance at night.
Should you keep Hiveling?
Situational. Keep it for a planned night route; otherwise Goblin or Underling is easier to use.

Hiveling effect
Nocturnal is reported to grant +10% damage, +10% resistance at night, -10% resistance during the day and -10% attack speed.
What the numbers come to
Split the trait by time of day and the ranking explains itself. At night you have +10% damage, +10% resistance and -10% attack speed. During the day you have -10% resistance and -10% attack speed and nothing else. The daytime profile is entirely downside, which makes this the only race here with a window where it is strictly worse than having no race bonus at all.
Whether the trade is ever positive depends on what share of playtime is night, and the game has not published the cycle length. If night is half the time the race is roughly break-even before the attack-speed penalty; if night is a quarter of the time it is clearly negative. You cannot price this race without a number nobody has.
The -10% attack speed is the one figure that never switches off. It is also why the +10% damage is smaller than it looks: attacking 10% slower while hitting 10% harder is close to a wash on basic attacks, since 0.9 × 1.1 = 0.99, so the damage bonus mostly pays back the penalty rather than adding on top of it.
Best build fit
Night farming and ability-led builds that are less dependent on basic attack speed.
Tradeoffs to check
Its value changes with the day-night cycle, and the attack-speed penalty is permanent.
Hiveling compared with Veilborne
Veilborne runs the same night theme correctly. Nightfall is added on top of an always-on +30%, so night is a bonus window rather than the only window that works. Hiveling has the night gate with no baseline underneath it, and that is the difference between an S roll and a C one.
Open the Veilborne profile for the other side of that trade.
When to reroll Hiveling
Reroll unless you have deliberately built a night farming route and know the cycle timings. This is the strongest reroll case on the list, because the race spends part of every cycle actively working against you.
A reroll replaces your race rather than adding a second one. The steps are on the race index.
What is not confirmed about Hiveling
- All four Nocturnal values are community-reported rather than taken from patch notes.
- The length of the day-night cycle is unpublished, and it is the single number that decides whether this race is playable.
- Whether -10% attack speed affects ability cast times or only basic attacks. If abilities are exempt, ability-led builds dodge most of the cost.
