Veilborne Race in The Veil
Stacks universal damage and speed faster than other races and adds a night-only active boost.
The developer's October 10 update log says Veilborne's Nightfall aura now grants +15% universal damage and +15% speed. Before that it was reported at +10%. The same log says Veilborne has a new racial passive without saying what it does, and adds Veilborne eye colour to character customization.
Should you keep Veilborne?
Keep it. Veilborne is the strongest all-purpose launch-build roll in this wiki's current ranking.

Veilborne effect
Duskweaver caps Weave at 4 stacks, with each stack granting +7.5% universal damage and speed. Nightfall adds another +15% universal damage and +15% speed, reported to last 15 seconds at night after a sanity-costing self-strike. The October 10 update also gave Veilborne a new racial passive that the patch notes do not describe.
What the numbers come to
Four stacks at +7.5% each is +30% universal damage and +30% speed once Weave is full. That figure is the number worth planning around, because a partially stacked Veilborne is an ordinary race: at one stack it is +7.5%, which several Uncommon races beat without any setup at all.
With Nightfall layered on at night the peak is now +45% for its window, up from +40% before the October 10 buff. That peak needs three conditions at once, though, being full stacks plus night plus the sanity payment. Judge the race on the +30% you can hold and treat the extra 15% as a burst you occasionally line up with a boss phase.
What actually puts this above every other roll here is coverage rather than size. The +30% applies to weapon hits, casts and summons alike, so no part of a loadout is wasted. Every other race on this list buys a bigger number in one damage type and nothing in the others.
Best build fit
General PvE or PvP builds that can keep Weave active. Its bonuses are not tied to one weapon or class path.
Tradeoffs to check
Nightfall is night-only and costs sanity. The exact numbers remain patch-sensitive during beta.
Veilborne compared with Underling
Underling gives +15% cast damage, half of Veilborne's full-stack bonus, but it applies from the first second with no stacking and carries +25% fire resistance and +10% regeneration on top. For a pure caster who fights in short bursts and never holds stacks, Underling can be the more practical roll despite ranking two tiers lower.

When to reroll Veilborne
There is no build in this game that wants to reroll away from Veilborne. If the roll landed, stop spending rerolls and put them toward a second character slot instead.
A reroll replaces your race rather than adding a second one. The steps are on the race index.
What is not confirmed about Veilborne
- Nightfall's +15% is from the developer's update log, but its 15-second duration is still community-reported.
- What the new racial passive added on October 10 does. The update log only says that it exists.
- The sanity cost of triggering Nightfall has not been published as a number.
- How quickly Weave stacks decay out of combat is unclear, which is the difference between a bonus you always have and one you rebuild every fight.
